Is the Bail Office Worth It in GTA Online? Bounties, Payouts and Agents
Follow @gtabossgg on X for weekly updates and guides.
Follow on XIs the Bail Office worth it in GTA Online? Yes, as a solo-friendly daily earner if you enjoy hunting bounties, now that Rockstar raised bounty payouts by 50% in May 2026. But it is a mid-tier business, not a top earner, and its agent income is small and needs you to send them out by hand.
Most Bail Office guides still quote the 2024 payouts. This one covers what bounties pay after the boost, why you should always bring targets in alive, whether the agents earn back their price, and which upgrades matter. For prices, locations and income at a glance, see our Bail Office business page.

What the Bail Office does and how it makes money
Maude Eccles, the bounty hunter behind the original bounty hunting questline, is retiring and hands you her business, Bottom Dollar Bail Enforcement. Her daughter Jenette works the office alongside you.
Every office comes with a holding cell, CCTV, the office safe, the bounty computer, and a garage for two personal vehicles plus the free Bottom Dollar bail enforcement van.
The money comes from three places:
Bounties: pick a target on the bounty computer, catch them, and drive them back to the office. This is almost all of the income.
Agents: if you hire them, they go out on their own bounty work and pay a small amount into the office safe.
Madrazo Hits: owning the office unlocks a daily contract from Martin Madrazo (more on that below).
There are no sell missions. Bounties pay out once the target is processed, so there is no product to stockpile and no sell threshold to wait for. The only delivery you ever make is the one captured target in the van, and you can always do that alone.
How much each bounty pays
In May 2026 Rockstar raised all Bail Office target payouts by 50%. The current figures below are approximate and assume the target comes in alive.
Target | Before May 2026 | After the 50% boost |
|---|---|---|
Standard target | About GTA$ 35,000 to GTA$ 40,000 | Roughly GTA$ 55,000 to GTA$ 60,000 |
Most Wanted target | About GTA$ 120,000 to GTA$ 130,000 | Roughly GTA$ 180,000 to GTA$ 195,000 |
Bring a target in dead and the reward drops by 75%, so you keep only a quarter of those numbers.
You are not paid the moment you park. Captured targets are processed in the holding cell first, and agents shorten that wait. In one hands-on test, processing took about 24 minutes with no agents, 12 with one and 6 with two.
How Standard and Most Wanted bounties work
Register as a VIP, CEO or MC President, then use the bounty computer in your office. The board shows three Standard Targets and one Most Wanted Target.
Bounty type | How often | Format |
|---|---|---|
Standard Target | Repeatable through the day; the board refreshes regularly | Freemode job, solo-friendly |
Most Wanted Target | Once per day, cycling through six targets | Its own mission for 1–4 players, solo-friendly |
Every bounty follows the same loop:
Pick a target on the bounty computer.
Drive to them in any vehicle you like.
Arrest them. The bail enforcement van then appears.
Drive the target back to the office in the van.
Wait for the holding cell to process them, then collect your pay.
The Most Wanted pays the most and comes around once a day, so it is the one to do whenever you play, with Standard targets filling the rest of your session.
One common mix-up: Dispatch Work, the police jobs for Vincent, came in the same update but is not part of the Bail Office. It needs a law enforcement vehicle and you have to retire your CEO, VIP or MC status to do it.
Bring targets in alive
This is the single biggest rule of the business. Killing a target cuts the reward by 75%, and the body goes to the LS County Coroner instead of your holding cell.
A few ways to keep them breathing:
Use the Stun Gun. It drops a target without killing them.
Disarm them first if they pull a weapon, rather than shooting to kill.
Wound, don't finish. If you have to shoot, aim to wound and then make the arrest.
Rushing a target with a rifle saves a little time, but at a quarter of the payout it almost never pays off.
Are the Bail Office agents worth it?
Agents cost GTA$ 750,000 each, and you can hire up to two (GTA$ 1,500,000). Walk up to an agent's desk to send them out on their own bounty work. They come back after 48 minutes (one in-game day) and pay roughly GTA$ 5,000 to GTA$ 10,000 each into the office safe. Some players only see the low end. With two agents that is up to about GTA$ 20,000 per trip.
That is not true passive income. You have to re-send each agent by hand every time, and nothing builds while you are offline. By player reports the safe holds about GTA$ 100,000, and agents stop depositing once it is full, so empty it whenever you are in the office.
The honest verdict: on safe income alone, agents take a long time to pay back GTA$ 1,500,000. The faster holding cell processing is the better reason to hire them, since it gets you paid sooner on every bounty you bring in. If you run bounties often, hire them; if you only drop in now and then, they can wait.
GTA+ members can send staff out and collect business safes from the Vinewood Club phone app, which makes the agents a little less hands-on. For businesses that genuinely earn on their own, see our passive income guide.
Which Bail Office upgrades to buy
The Agents are the only upgrade that changes your income. Everything else is convenience or looks.
Upgrade | Price | What it does | Buy it? |
|---|---|---|---|
Agents | GTA$ 750,000 each (up to two) | Safe income per trip and faster processing | Yes, if you run bounties regularly |
Personal Quarters | GTA$ 295,000 | Lets you spawn at the office | Optional, handy for daily runs |
Gun Locker | GTA$ 175,000 | Weapon storage at the office | Skip if you own one elsewhere |
Armor Plating | GTA$ 125,000 | Armors the bail enforcement van | Optional |
Penal Vintage style | Free | Cosmetic | Default |
Criminal Patterns style | GTA$ 125,000 | Cosmetic | Skip |
Courtroom Teak style | GTA$ 145,000 | Cosmetic | Skip |
Maxing everything adds GTA$ 2,240,000, so a fully built Downtown Vinewood office costs GTA$ 4,860,000. You do not need to spend that: the base office plus the agents covers everything that earns money.
Madrazo Hits and other perks
Owning a Bail Office also unlocks a daily Madrazo Hit. Martin Madrazo marks a target, you eliminate them and send him a photo, and you get a bonus for using his weapon of choice. It does not need CEO or MC registration. It reportedly pays about GTA$ 20,000, plus a GTA$ 10,000 weapon bonus.
If you run the Money Fronts, the Bail Office also counts as one of the businesses that feed the Hands On Car Wash safe.
How to buy a Bail Office and which location
Answer Maude's phone call, then buy the office from the Maze Bank Foreclosures website. There are five locations:
Location | Price |
|---|---|
Paleto Bay | GTA$ 1,650,000 |
Davis | GTA$ 2,000,000 |
Del Perro | GTA$ 2,350,000 |
Mission Row | GTA$ 2,390,000 |
Downtown Vinewood | GTA$ 2,620,000 |
Avoid Paleto Bay: it is the cheapest, but most targets are a long drive from Blaine County. Davis is the cheapest office in the city, and Mission Row is the central pick. Our Bail Office business page compares every location and tracks discounts.
Is the Bail Office worth it?
Yes, if you like the bounty gameplay. After the May 2026 boost, a daily Most Wanted plus a few Standard targets makes it a solid daily earner, and every bounty can be done solo. Our solo money-making guide shows where it sits among other solo earners.
It is still a mid-tier business. The money is active: you earn it target by target, and the agents add only a small, hands-on top-up.
Bail Office vs Salvage Yard
The two are often compared. The Salvage Yard is built around a few big robbery scores each week plus towing and a daily safe, while the Bail Office pays smaller sums for bounties you can repeat through the day. If you prefer short, repeatable jobs, the Bail Office suits you better; our Salvage Yard guide covers the other side.
Wait for a bonus week
Rockstar regularly runs 2X bounty weeks, 2X agent (Staff) income and 40% off the property and its upgrades (GTA+ members have had 50% off). Buying during a sale and hunting during a 2X week are the easiest ways to get your money back faster.
Bail Office FAQ
How much money do you make from the Bail Office in GTA 5?
After the May 2026 boost, a Standard target pays roughly GTA$ 55,000 to GTA$ 60,000 and the daily Most Wanted roughly GTA$ 180,000 to GTA$ 195,000, both brought in alive. Two agents add up to about GTA$ 20,000 per trip.
Are Bail Office agents worth it?
Only if you run bounties often. Their safe income is small (roughly GTA$ 5,000 to GTA$ 10,000 each per trip) and slow to pay back GTA$ 1,500,000, but they speed up holding cell processing, which is the better reason to hire them.
Which Bail Office is best in GTA 5?
Mission Row, because it is central. Davis is the cheapest office in the city. Avoid Paleto Bay, since most targets are a long drive away.
What does the Bail Office do in GTA V?
It lets you take bounties from the office's bounty computer, catch targets and bring them back for a payout. It also comes with optional agents and unlocks a daily Madrazo Hit.
What happens if you kill a bounty target?
The reward is cut by 75% and the body goes to the LS County Coroner. Use the Stun Gun, or disarm and wound targets, to bring them in alive.
Can you do Bail Office bounties solo?
Yes. Standard targets are freemode jobs and the Most Wanted supports 1–4 players, and all of them can be done solo. Register as a VIP, CEO or MC President first.
How much does the Bail Office safe hold?
By player reports, about GTA$ 100,000. Agents stop depositing once it is full.
Is the Bail Office passive income?
Not really. Agents pay into the safe, but you have to send them out by hand every time, and nothing builds while you are offline.
Is Dispatch Work part of the Bail Office?
No. It came in the same update, but it needs a law enforcement vehicle and you have to retire your CEO, VIP or MC status to do it.
