Everything You Need to Know About Taxi Work
Taxi Work is a free, solo Free Mode job in GTA Online: pick up customers at the Downtown Cab Co. in East Vinewood (or in your own taxi) and drive them around Los Santos for cash. Expect around GTA$ 40,000 to GTA$ 60,000 an hour, plus the Vapid Taxi's trade price and exclusive liveries for finishing fares.
Rockstar added the job on January 19, 2023 as part of "Taxi Work Week" during the Los Santos Drug Wars period, with the Vapid Taxi going on sale the same week. It won't out-earn a heist, but it costs nothing to start, needs no prior experience, and it's one of the most relaxing ways to make money in the game. Since the Bottom Dollar Bounties update it also pays 2.5x what it used to, so ignore the numbers in older guides.

How to start Taxi Work
The simplest way: drive to the Downtown Cab Co. depot on the corner of Tangerine Street and Mirror Park Boulevard in East Vinewood, right by the Diamond Casino. Starting from the depot spawns you in a company taxi with the license plate C4BCO and the radio auto-tuned to Radio Mirror Park.
You can also trigger Taxi Work anywhere by pressing RS/R3 (or B on keyboard) while driving a taxi you own:
A purchased Vapid Taxi or the Arena War Taxi Custom (both Pegasus vehicles)
A Broadway, Eudora, drift-tuned Cypher, or Hardy wearing the relevant Downtown Cab Co., Drift Taxi, or Taxi Import livery
Arena War veterans who hit Sponsorship Tier 25 can use their special red Taxi
One gotcha that trips up a lot of players: you cannot start Taxi Work while registered as a CEO/VIP or MC President. Disband or retire first, then start the job.
How a fare works
The loop is dead simple:
Wait for dispatch to assign a customer.
Drive to the pickup and honk (L3/E) to signal them in.
Drive them to the highlighted drop-off circle as quickly and cleanly as you can.
They get out, you get paid, and dispatch sends the next fare.
You can quit any time by holding Y / Triangle / F, which shows your session total. Just remember that quitting resets your consecutive-fare streak.
How much does Taxi Work pay?
The headline: since the Bottom Dollar Bounties update on June 25, 2024, Taxi Work earnings carry a permanent 2.5x multiplier. A clean 10-fare streak now pays around GTA$ 40,000, up from roughly GTA$ 16,000 before the buff. That works out to about GTA$ 2,000 to GTA$ 5,000 per fare and around GTA$ 40,000 to GTA$ 60,000 an hour with efficient driving. If a guide quotes much smaller numbers, it predates this change.
Here is how a fare is built, before that 2.5x is applied. The base fare is small and scales with distance, from roughly GTA$ 100 for a short hop up to about GTA$ 200 for a longer one, and it never drops. The tip is where the real money is: before the multiplier it starts around GTA$ 1,000 and climbs by about GTA$ 100 for each consecutive fare, maxing out near GTA$ 2,000 after 10 fares in a row. The 2.5x then lands on top of both the base fare and the tip, which is how a late-streak fare reaches that GTA$ 5,000 range and a clean 10-fare run lands near GTA$ 40,000.
The tip shrinks the longer you take (ticking down a few percent every 30 seconds) and drops when you crash, so fast, clean driving is the whole skill. Fares stay short, so you are never far from a payout: drop-offs sit within about 2.5 km of you, stretching to roughly 4 km once you pass 10 fares in a row.
Rockstar also runs periodic 2x and 3x Taxi Work bonus weeks, so check the weekly update before grinding a long session.

The Taxi Driver Award ticks up in tiers at 5, 10, 20, and 50 fares, so you'll earn progress on it long before the livery lands. The Taxi itself is a Pegasus vehicle and can only be resprayed, so treat the unlock as a collectible more than a build project.
Is Taxi Work worth it?
For money alone, no. GTA$ 40,000 to GTA$ 60,000 an hour is well below what a heist or a stocked business returns: a practiced run of the Cayo Perico Heist earns more per hour than an entire evening of fares, and if you'd rather not drive at all, passive income setups make money while you do something else.
But that misses the point. Taxi Work costs nothing, requires nothing, and runs entirely solo. It's genuinely relaxing, it's a great way for new players to make money in GTA Online without owning any businesses, and it teaches you the map better than any other activity. Grind the 10-fare streak for the Taxi's trade price, chip away at the liveries, and save the serious sessions for a 2x or 3x bonus week when the hourly rate actually competes.
