Sightseer VIP Mission in GTA Online: Payout and How the Hacks Work
Sightseer is a VIP/CEO mission where you hack the Sightseer app on your phone to reveal three packages, then collect them one by one. It pays GTA$ 20,000 base and up to around GTA$ 25,000 depending on how you run it, and it is one of the easiest VIP Work missions to complete solo.

How Sightseer works
Sightseer runs on a simple loop. Open the Sightseer app on your in-game phone, complete a short hacking minigame, and the location of a package appears on your map. Drive or fly there, grab it, then open the app and hack again for the next one. Three packages, three hacks, and one strict timer covering the whole mission.
You need to be registered as a VIP or CEO to launch it. Registering as a VIP takes GTA$ 50,000 in the bank (the game checks the balance, it never deducts it); becoming a CEO means owning an executive office. There is no rank gate. If you have never registered before, our guide on how to start VIP missions walks through the setup.
One detail that matters if you run with an organization: only the leader can use the Sightseer app and see the package locations. Associates cannot hack, so their job is escort duty, keeping the boss alive between pickups. Solo players lose nothing here, which is part of why Sightseer is such a comfortable one-person mission.
Payout: why finishing fast pays less
Sightseer pays GTA$ 20,000 as a base, rising to around GTA$ 25,000 at most. The payout scales with time on the clock: the longer the mission runs, the more it pays. A speedrun finish does not earn the same money as a full-length run, it earns less.
Community testing points to a practical rule for the Sightseer max payout: collect the final package when there are under roughly 5 minutes remaining on the timer, and the mission pays out the full amount, around GTA$ 25,000. Treat the exact threshold as approximate, but the direction is clear: do not rush the last pickup if you want the top figure.
That said, per-run pay and per-hour pay are different questions. If you are chaining Sightseer between other money-making activities, finishing quickly and moving on can earn more per hour than waiting out the clock for an extra few thousand. Pick your approach based on what you are doing with the rest of your session.
The hacking minigames
Each package is locked behind one of three short hacking minigames, and they appear in random order, so expect to see all of them across a run. Two are timing-based: you watch a moving element on the phone screen and press at the right moment, and a mistake sets you back, so favor accuracy over speed.
The trickiest of the three is a digit-grid puzzle: the app shows you a target sequence of numbers (an IP address) and you have to find and select the matching digits in a scrolling grid before they shift. A useful trick is to hunt for just the first number of the sequence; once you spot it, the rest usually follow next to it. The digits cycle across the screen in a fixed order, so if you lose your match, it has only moved one position over.
None of the hacks are hard once you have seen them, but fumbling one costs mission time, and time is money here in both directions.
Vehicle and route strategy
The packages spawn at dozens of possible locations across the map, so travel time is the real challenge, not the pickups themselves. An aircraft is the strongest choice: a helicopter lets you fly point to point, ignore traffic, and land close to most package spots. A fast car works fine if you would rather stay on the ground, but budget more of the timer for driving.
Keep the payout mechanic in mind when choosing how hard to push. Flying flat-out gets you through the mission faster, which lowers the per-run payout. If you are after the full payout, cruise between the first two packages or do the hacks before taking off, and time the final pickup for the back half of the timer. If you are optimizing dollars per hour instead, fly fast and take the smaller payout.
Playing Sightseer in a busy session
Sightseer works in public, Invite Only, Crew, and Friend sessions, so the simplest way to avoid trouble is an Invite Only session away from other players.
If you are in a public session, know what you are signing up for: after you collect the first package, the session is alerted to the mission and your position gets blipped on the map for other players, with further blips as the mission continues. And if another player kills you while you are leading the mission, expect the mission to fail. A helicopter helps here too, since altitude keeps you clear of most casual aggression between pickups.
Cooldowns and what to run next
After finishing Sightseer you can start another VIP Work mission 5 minutes later, and Sightseer itself becomes available again after 10 minutes. These timings have been stable for years and remain unchanged through the current title update.
The classic rotation is to alternate it with Headhunter, which starts from the same GTA$ 20,000 base with a higher ceiling around GTA$ 30,000, and trades driving for shooting. Running the two back to back fills the cooldown gaps neatly. For where VIP Work fits in the bigger earning picture, see our solo money making guide.
FAQ
How much does Sightseer pay in GTA Online?
Sightseer pays GTA$ 20,000 base, scaling up to around GTA$ 25,000. The payout grows with time spent on the clock, so a slower run pays more than a rushed one. Community testing suggests collecting the last package with under about 5 minutes left on the timer secures the full amount.
How does the Sightseer app work?
Open the Sightseer app on your in-game phone and complete a short hacking minigame; each successful hack reveals the location of one package. There are three minigame types and they appear in random order. Only the VIP or CEO can hack and see the locations.
Do other players get alerted during Sightseer?
Yes. After you collect the first package, the session is notified and your position is blipped on the map, with more blips as the mission goes on. Run it in an Invite Only session if you want zero interference.
How long does Sightseer take?
The mission runs on a strict on-screen timer. With an aircraft you'll finish with plenty of time to spare; remember a faster finish means a smaller payout.
Is Sightseer or Headhunter better?
They start from the same GTA$ 20,000 base (Headhunter's ceiling is higher, around GTA$ 30,000) and share the short VIP Work cooldowns, so the best answer is both, alternated. Headhunter is combat (four assassination targets), Sightseer is travel and hacking. If you prefer shooting or want a target-based change of pace, run Headhunter between Sightseer cooldowns.
