How to Get the Navy Revolver in GTA Online (and GTA$ 275,000!)

Guide · By · Published

To get the Navy Revolver in GTA Online, find the five Los Santos Slasher clues in Freemode (four fixed spots plus a van that appears at one of five places), then kill the Slasher when he hunts you down in Blaine County at night. Killing him unlocks the Navy Revolver and pays at least GTA$ 50,000.

The GTA$ 275,000 in the title is the least the whole hunt pays, not one payout: players report GTA$ 5,000 per clue (GTA$ 25,000 for all five), killing the Slasher credits GTA$ 50,000 to your Maze Bank account and the follow-up challenge of 50 kills with the revolver pays GTA$ 200,000. Some players report a second GTA$ 50,000 paid as cash in hand for the Slasher, which our own kill screenshot appears to show, so your total can come out higher. The clues add about 10,000 RP on top.

The hunt arrived with The Diamond Casino Heist update on 12 December 2019. Rockstar's premise: a serial killer roams Blaine County with an antique Navy Revolver, and bringing him to justice claims the weapon. Nothing starts it for you (no email, text, call or property), so below are all the Navy Revolver clue locations in order, plus the Slasher fight and the challenge.

How the Navy Revolver Hunt Works

Clues 1 to 4 sit at fixed spots and can be done in any order, day or night. The fifth clue is a van that can appear at one of five spots, so leave it for last. Rockstar never published the clue spots or the Slasher's hours: the locations and times here are community-mapped.

Clues have no map blip. You know you are close from the audio (a heartbeat, screams or whispering), and your controller may vibrate. Walk up until the investigate prompt appears and press it; if you are in a vehicle, the game tells you to get out first. A notification confirms each clue, and players report GTA$ 5,000 and 2,000 RP per clue.

If you reach a spot and the clue object is not there, players report it sometimes fails to render but still registers. Leaving and rejoining the session is the reported fix, and your progress is kept. For the rest of Freemode's hidden items, our collectibles hub lists them all, including a quick reference for the Slasher clues.

First Clue Location

Head to Cherry Pie Farm in Great Chaparral. On the westernmost barn, "CAN YOU FIND ME?" is painted in white on the cinder-block wall, under a wall light. Walk up to the writing until the prompt to investigate the clue appears.

Second Clue Location

Go to Sandy Shores Airfield in the Grand Senora Desert. Just beyond the north-west end of the runway, drop into the ditch by the rusty metal sheets. The clue is a severed hand lying between a tyre and the trash bags, so use the bags, tyre and metal sheets in the screenshot to find the right patch of ditch.

Third Clue Location

The third clue is in Grapeseed: a bloody machete stuck in the outer wall of a wooden barn. Investigate the blade itself to log the clue.

Fourth Clue Location

Drive to Paleto Forest at the south-west end of Paleto Bay and find Bayview Lodge (a lodge, diner and store). Behind it is a small shed with a bloody handprint on the door. That handprint is clue four.

Fifth Clue Location

The fifth clue is a black Speedo van with its back doors open: bloody trash bags, machetes and meat hooks inside, and blood on the floor. It appears at one of five spots, all in Blaine County, chosen at random.

Do this clue last. If you reach a spot and the van is not there, check the other spots, or come back at night. Finding the van triggers the Slasher, so read the Slasher section before you investigate it. The close-up below is the van as we found it at Braddock Pass.

Van Spot A: Raton Canyon

By Cassidy Creek in Raton Canyon, the van parks in a small clearing among the trees on the north side of the river. The screenshot shows the spot empty at night, with the map marking the river bend.

Van Spot B: Lago Zancudo

Look on a marshy outcrop on the north bank of the Zancudo River, south-east of Fort Zancudo. The screenshot shows the empty riverbank at night.

Van Spot C: Palmer-Taylor Power Station

Cross the rail line just south-west of the Palmer-Taylor Power Station. The van sits behind a large red horizontal storage tank, next to a big white tank (both visible in the screenshot, with no van that night).

Van Spot D: Under the Freeway Near You Tool

This one is under the Senora Freeway where the railway passes beneath it, near the You Tool store. The screenshot shows the empty spot under the overpass, with a barrier between the road and the tracks.

Van Spot E: Braddock Pass

At Braddock Pass, the van parks on wooden planks beside the railway bridge near the Braddock Tunnel. This is where our van turned up, as the screenshot shows.

How to Kill the Slasher

After the fifth clue, a text arrives from an unknown number: "I'm sick of you sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong! Now I'm not going to lie... what happens next... won't be nice for you."

He comes for you the next time you are in Blaine County at night, between 19:00 and 05:00 in-game time. Players report he only spawns when you are on foot. He appears outside your view, often behind you, and a red skull marks him on the minimap, with the help text "The Los Santos Slasher has hunted you down. Take him out to earn a reward."

He carries only a machete and charges straight at you, so the fight is about seeing him early. Wait somewhere open with long sightlines, such as the Sandy Shores Airfield runway, and put him down with ranged fire before he closes the gap. If he does kill you, the hunt does not fail: you respawn and he comes back.

Once he drops, you get "SLASHER KILLED / You now own the Navy Revolver", the revolver goes straight into your weapon wheel and GTA$ 50,000 lands in your Maze Bank account. Our screenshot below also shows your cash counter jump by GTA$ 50,000, with the game's warning that you are carrying more than GTA$ 5,000, so bank it at an ATM before another player can take it.

This Slasher is not the Halloween "Slashers" random event (killer NPCs that stalk you in Freemode during limited-time Halloween events, covered in our Halloween Slashers guide) or the Slasher Adversary Modes. Those are separate and never give a Navy Revolver.

FAQ

What time does the Slasher spawn in GTA Online?
Between 19:00 and 05:00 in-game time, and only in Blaine County. If he has not shown up, check all five clues are done (the van counts), you are in Blaine County inside that window, and you are on foot, since players report he spawns when you are on foot.

Why is the Navy Revolver challenge not working?
First check that you are counting kills, not headshots: the target is 50 kills, and a notification every 10 confirms they are registering. A few players report the GTA$ 200,000 never arriving after 50 kills; if that happens, contact Rockstar Support.

Is the Navy Revolver hunt the same as the Treasure Hunt?
No. The Treasure Hunt is a separate set of clues that rewards the Double-Action Revolver. Our Treasure Hunt guide covers that one.

How do I get the Red Dead Online reward from the Navy Revolver challenge?
Completing the 50-kill challenge makes Lowry's Revolver, a blood-stained Navy Revolver variant, discoverable in Red Dead Online. It is in a lockbox in the cellar of a ruined cabin west of Valentine. Red Dead Online and GTA Online must be on the same linked Social Club / Rockstar Games account; that link is needed for the Red Dead reward only. We found no announced change to the tie-in since 2019, though we have not seen a recent report of the pickup.

Can you buy the Navy Revolver at Ammu-Nation?
No. You get it by killing the Slasher, and Ammu-Nation only sells its ammo. Players reported the revolver vanishing from the weapon wheel after eating a peyote plant in 2020, and in a 2023 case Rockstar Support restored it, after which it could reportedly be picked up free at Ammu-Nation.

Can you do the Navy Revolver hunt again?
Reportedly not on the same character: one player says the clues were gone once it was done. Whether a new character can redo it or get paid again is unknown.
