KnoWay Out Missions in GTA Online: Payout, Order and Walkthrough

Guide · Published

The KnoWay Out missions are a free, five-mission story strand in GTA Online, and the A Clean Break finale currently pays GTA$ 245,000 on Normal and GTA$ 367,500 on Hard. Hosting your first finale after each Thursday reset pays GTA$ 455,700 or GTA$ 683,550 instead. You need no property, and every mission works solo.

Avi Schwartzman brings you in to take down KnoWay, a self-driving taxi start-up that runs a surveillance network for the FIB. The strand arrived with A Safehouse in the Hills on December 10, 2025, and its payout was cut in the July 2026 economy update, so many older guides still list a figure that no longer applies. Here's how to start it, what each mission asks of you, and what it pays today.

How to start KnoWay Out

You don't need to buy anything. Rockstar's own wording is that owning one of the Prix Luxury properties is not required: you just visit the payphone in Little Seoul.

  1. Avi sends you a text from an unknown number pointing you to a payphone.

  2. Head to the Xero gas station on Calais Avenue in Little Seoul and look for the gold "A" blip labelled KnoWay Out.

  3. Answer the call. Avi sends you on to a second payphone at Echo Rock on Alta Street.

  4. That second call starts the first mission, Negative Press.

From then on, each mission unlocks the next one, and Avi texts you the payphone where it starts.

KnoWay Out payout

Only the finale, A Clean Break, pays the big cash. The host receives these amounts:

Finale run

Normal

Hard

First completion after the Thursday weekly reset

GTA$ 455,700

GTA$ 683,550

Every other completion that week

GTA$ 245,000

GTA$ 367,500

Title Update 1.73 added a weekly first-completion bonus to 13 finales, A Clean Break among them; here it works out to 1.86 times the standard pay. The boost applies to everyone in the run as long as the host has not completed the finale yet that week, and the figures above are the host's share. Repeat runs in the same week fall back to the standard pay. Hard pays 1.5 times Normal in both rows, so it's worth switching once you know the missions.

If you bring friends, crew members earn a smaller fixed amount than the host. On top of the finale pay, the first three missions each have an optional GTA$ 10,000 objective (covered in the walkthrough below), and the finale has an Elite Challenge.

KnoWay Out walkthrough: every mission

The tips below are what players report works; treat them as options, not requirements.

Negative Press

You enter the KnoWay depot on foot, clear out the guards, and use a test pod to remote-drive a KnoWay taxi through a set of chaos objectives, such as knocking over traffic signals, holding a high speed, hitting a stunt height or running into pedestrians. After that you destroy KnoWay billboards and taxis around the city, wreck your own taxi, lose the cops and drop off at Avi's Lampadati Felon GT.

  • GTA$ 10,000 bonus: destroy all the billboards and taxis while you are still driving the KnoWay taxi.

  • Tip: if you don't care about the bonus, players report a fast personal vehicle and sticky bombs clear the billboards and taxis far quicker than the slow taxi.

Inside Job

You pose as a new KnoWay hire, driving your KnoWay contact around in an Obey Omnis e-GT and planting an explosive to sabotage Downtown Cab Co. Your cover gets blown back at the hideout and you shoot your way out. Next you raid the Cypress Flats data center for hard drives, survive an ambush from a HVY Menacer, and deliver the drives.

  • GTA$ 10,000 bonus: find the FIB tech in the hideout.

  • Tip: players suggest an Armored Kuruma for the shootouts.

Tunnel Vision

After the payphone call at Caipira Airways, you head underground to the LSIA Terminal 4 subway station. You board and hack the KnoWay train, which Avi then uses to stop the engineer's train, and you grab the briefcase. To escape the tunnels, you either ride out on Western Powersurge bikes or hack the train, then finish the getaway in an Omnis e-GT.

  • GTA$ 10,000 bonus: steal the ECU in the tunnel station.

  • Tip: players suggest keeping snacks handy for the tunnel escape.

Trash Talking

Dressed as a refuse collector, you steal a Trashmaster from Rogers Salvage & Scrap. You then collect document bags from three KnoWay offices (the third needs a keypad hack), hit an FIB van for more bags, escape a wanted level and deliver the truck. If the Trashmaster is destroyed, the mission fails, so drive carefully.

  • Tip: players report that grabbing only the blue document bags speeds things up. Collecting every trash bag earns the Waste Not award, so pick one goal per run.

A Clean Break (finale)

You grab a hacking device and get yourself arrested by the FIB on purpose. In the interrogation room, read the handbook to learn the padlock wire colour, pry open the keypad with the pen and cut that wire. Then retrieve your gear, hack the database, fight up to the roof and take off in the helicopter. You get shot down, fight off FIB agents on the beach at Palomino Highlands, and escape on a Speedophile Seashark to Avi's tug.

  • Tip: players report running toward the FIB cars gets you arrested faster.

  • Tip: for the helicopters at the beach, a railgun or shots at the pilot are the commonly suggested fix.

A Clean Break Elite Challenge

To earn the Elite bonus on the finale, you need to hit all of these in one run:

  • Finish in under 10:00

  • Nobody gets wasted

  • No failed hacks

  • 35 headshots

  • No quick restart

Sources from before the July 2026 update reported the Elite bonus as GTA$ 50,000 on Normal and GTA$ 100,000 on Hard; that figure has not been reconfirmed since. It is doable solo: one hands-on solo run cleared the Elite Challenge on Hard in 8:49. Players report that explosive sniper rounds may not count toward the headshot total, so stick to regular rounds for the kills you need. Completing the Elite also earns The Cleanest Break award.

Home Sweet Home: the mansion bonus mission

Home Sweet Home is a follow-up solo mission that only unlocks after A Clean Break if you own a Prix Luxury Mansion. Michael De Santa fights alongside you, and your first completion pays a one-time GTA$ 500,000 award.

This is the only part of the KnoWay Out story that needs a property. Rockstar's line on it is that having a mansion "will raise the stakes". Mansions are a serious investment, so check the options and current prices on our mansions page before buying one just for this mission.

KnoWay Out rewards and awards

Beyond the finale pay, the strand has two large one-time cash awards:

Award

How to earn it

Reward

A Clean Break

Complete A Clean Break as the leader

GTA$ 250,000

Willing Accomplice

Complete all KnoWay Out missions as a crew member

GTA$ 250,000

Willing Accomplice means joining someone else's run, so solo players need to join another player's run to collect it.

The other awards are about style rather than cash, alongside one for finishing each mission as leader:

  • Autonomous: complete all objectives with the taxi in Negative Press.

  • Explosive Leadership: take out the boss with the explosive in Inside Job.

  • Subway Stunt: perform the stunt jump at the subway tunnel exit in Tunnel Vision.

  • Waste Not: collect all the trash in Trash Talking.

  • The Cleanest Break: complete the A Clean Break Elite Challenge.

  • No Way KnoWay: destroy 5, 10, 15 and 20 KnoWay taxis.

Is KnoWay Out worth it?

Yes, especially once a week. It costs nothing to start, needs no property, and every mission works solo, which makes it one of the easier story strands to fit into a session. The real value is the weekly first completion: hosting A Clean Break on Hard after the Thursday reset pays GTA$ 683,550, and your first clear as leader also earns the GTA$ 250,000 A Clean Break award. A practiced solo player can get through the full strand in under an hour.

Repeat runs in the same week drop to GTA$ 367,500 on Hard and still mean replaying all five missions, so it works best as a weekly stop rather than a grind. Add it to your weekly checklist alongside the other first-completion bonuses, and see the solo money-making guide for what to run in between. If you're newer and building toward your first businesses, the beginner's roadmap shows where a free strand like this fits, and the Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid guide covers another story finale worth adding to the rotation.

FAQ

Can you do the KnoWay Out missions solo?

Yes. Rockstar lists the strand for 1–4 players and every mission, including the finale, can be finished alone. Nothing in the strand forces a second player; the only reward that needs one is the Willing Accomplice award.

Do you need a mansion for KnoWay Out?

No. The five main missions are free to start from the Little Seoul payphone. A Prix Luxury Mansion only matters for the optional Home Sweet Home follow-up.

Does KnoWay Out still pay GTA$ 350,000?

No. GTA$ 350,000 on Normal and GTA$ 525,000 on Hard were the launch payouts. The Title Update 1.73 economy pass on July 14, 2026 lowered them to the current figures, so anything still quoting GTA$ 350,000 is out of date.

What is the KnoWay Out cooldown?

There is a wait before you can replay, but its exact length has not been confirmed. After A Clean Break, a message says the strand can be replayed soon from a payphone in Alta, and the call comes through once that wait is over.

How do you earn 5 million from KnoWay Out?

That is a Career Progress objective on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Enhanced). The Tier 4 goals are to earn GTA$ 5,000,000 from KnoWay Out in total, finish every mission on Hard without snacks or armor, and complete the strand in under 60 minutes. Tier 4 is listed as rewarding The Hacker outfit, GTA$ 150,000 and 5,000 RP. Hard runs, and the weekly first completion in particular, are the biggest single payouts toward that total.
