How letter scraps work

Letter scraps are a Story Mode set. Together they form a torn-up confession letter about the 1975 murder of the starlet Leonora Johnson. Finding all 50 names her killer and unlocks A Starlet in Vinewood, a Strangers and Freaks mission for Franklin.

You can start collecting letter scraps very early in the story, and Michael, Franklin and Trevor can all pick them up. When you play as Franklin, Chop can help you find scraps nearby.

Each scrap is a small glowing piece of paper on the ground, and you will hear it rustling as you get close. With autosave on, the game saves every time you pick one up.

The numbers on this page are our own. Some other maps and lists number the scraps differently, so match them by place, not number, and collect them in any order you like. Most are an easy walk, but a few take more effort: 4 sits on a roof at the airport and needs a helicopter, 14 is at the top of a crane after a long ladder climb, and several are on small islands or in a sea cove you reach by boat or by swimming.

A Starlet in Vinewood and 100% completion

With all 50 scraps found, the full 4-page letter, addressed to David Richards of Richards Majestic, reveals who killed Leonora Johnson. It also unlocks A Starlet in Vinewood, a Strangers and Freaks mission in the Vinewood Hills. Only Franklin can play it, even if Michael or Trevor picked up some of the scraps. Franklin confronts the killer at his house, and finishing the mission earns the A Mystery, Solved achievement (a trophy on PlayStation). Killing him is the gold medal objective, and it is the safe choice if you want the achievement.
