How to photograph a Monkey Mosaic

The mosaics are a Story Mode set, and they exist only in the enhanced versions of the game that began with the 2014 re-release, not on PS3 or Xbox 360. In the story they are a marketing stunt for Space Monkey 3D. One of the 50 is spray-painted instead of tiled.

Use the phone camera and get close, or zoom in, so the whole mosaic fits in the frame. Nothing can be in the way: several are tucked behind bushes or planters, so walk right up to them. A few sit on rooftops or high on walls, and you will need to stand on a vehicle or climb a ladder to get a clean shot.

You can tell a shot has counted because the photo preview offers only Continue, not save or delete, and an on-screen message shows your progress. A counted photo does not go to your Gallery. If the game offers to save the picture to the Gallery instead, the shot missed, so move closer and try again.

Pause menu > Stats > General shows how many of the 50 you have photographed. The numbers on this page are our own, and other lists order the mosaics differently. Mosaics 1 and 3 are only a few steps apart under the Olympic Freeway in Strawberry, so take them in one stop.

Who can collect them and what you get

The mosaics are available from the mission Franklin and Lamar onward. Lamar texts Franklin about the street artist early in the story, but you do not need to wait for that text, and any of the three characters can take the photos.

Photographing the 50th mosaic sends a set of monkey outfits to Trevor's wardrobe. Returning players, the ones who carried over from PS3 or Xbox 360, then get a random event near Los Santos Customs in Burton, and it helps if at least one of your characters owns a vehicle garage. Approach quietly from the west, photograph the masked artist while he paints, and let him run off without hurting him. Space Monkey then texts you, and a Dinka Go Go Monkey Blista, a Blista Compact in Go Go Space Monkey livery, is delivered to your garage.

The set does not count toward 100% completion.

  • Monkey outfits for Trevor
  • A final random event that unlocks the Go Go Monkey Blista (returning players)

Monkey Mosaics FAQ

Why did my Monkey Mosaic photo not count?

The whole mosaic has to be in the frame with nothing blocking it, so get closer or zoom in. A counted shot offers only Continue and shows your progress on screen; a photo that saves to the Gallery has not counted.

What is the reward for all 50 Monkey Mosaics?

Trevor gets monkey outfits in his wardrobe. Returning players also unlock a final random event that rewards the Go Go Monkey Blista.

How do you get the Go Go Monkey Blista?

Photograph all 50 mosaics as a returning player, then find the random event near Los Santos Customs in Burton. Sneak in from the west, photograph the masked artist and let him run off. Space Monkey texts you and the Blista is delivered to your garage.

Are the Monkey Mosaics on PS3 and Xbox 360?

No. They exist only in the enhanced versions that began with the 2014 re-release, not on PS3 or Xbox 360.

Do the Monkey Mosaics count toward 100% completion?

No. They do not count toward 100% completion. You can track them in Pause menu > Stats > General, which shows your count out of 50.
