Land Peyote Plants 1–15

  1. Land Peyote Plant 1: Raton Canyon On a wooded hillside at the end of a dirt trail.
  2. Land Peyote Plant 2: Vinewood Hills Just east of the road tunnel near the Galileo Observatory.

  5. Air Peyote Plant 5: Mount Chiliad High on the northeast face of Mount Chiliad.

Sea Peyote Plants 1–6

  1. Sea Peyote Plant 1: Los Santos International Airport Underwater in the channel between the airport and the port.
  2. Sea Peyote Plant 2: Del Perro Beach Underwater off the end of Del Perro Pier.
  3. Sea Peyote Plant 3: Pacific Ocean Deep underwater off the east coast, out from Humane Labs.
  4. Sea Peyote Plant 4: Pacific Ocean Underwater just off the Lago Zancudo river mouth.
  5. Sea Peyote Plant 5: Alamo Sea Underwater in an inlet at the northwest corner of the Alamo Sea.
  6. Sea Peyote Plant 6: Pacific Ocean Underwater offshore, west of Paleto Bay.

Golden Peyote Plants 1–7

The Golden Peyote unlock once you have reached 100% completion, finished The Last One (which becomes available at 100%) and eaten all 27 regular plants. There are seven of them, one for each day of the week, and you eat them in order from Sunday to Saturday. Each one only appears between 5:30 and 8:00 AM in-game time, in fog or snow.

  1. Golden Peyote Plant 1: Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness Sunday: on a hiking trail about 300 m east of the coast highway bridge over Cassidy Creek.
  2. Golden Peyote Plant 2: Raton Canyon Monday: on the slope below a road bend, above Cassidy Creek.
  3. Golden Peyote Plant 3: Raton Canyon Tuesday: on the slope between the road and the river.
  4. Golden Peyote Plant 4: Mount Chiliad Wednesday: on a small round peninsula by the Alamo Sea's northwest inlet.
  5. Golden Peyote Plant 5: Alamo Sea Thursday: on a small point on the Alamo Sea's north shore.
  6. Golden Peyote Plant 6: Mount Chiliad Friday: on the slope just above the road along the Alamo Sea's north shore.
  7. Golden Peyote Plant 7: Grapeseed Saturday: on a wooded hillside just northwest of Grapeseed.

How peyote plants work

Peyote plants arrived with the enhanced version of GTA 5 (PS4 and Xbox One in 2014, PC in 2015) and are in every later release, including PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. They are not in the original PS3 and Xbox 360 release. Eat one and you play as an animal for a while. Find all 27, reach 100% completion and finish The Last One, and the hunt for the Golden Peyote, the Sasquatch and the Beast opens up.

Eating a plant plays a short cutscene. Your character passes out and wakes up as a random animal, and you cannot pick which one. Each plant makes the sound of its animal, so listen out when you are close. Land plants turn you into land animals, air plants into birds and sea plants into sea life. A trip has no fixed length: it ends when the animal dies or goes into the water, or when you hold right on the d-pad.

Finding the 21 land and air plants earns the Cryptozoologist achievement. Sea plants do not count toward it. The land and air animals also unlock for Director Mode, but sea animals cannot be used there. Beyond that, the 27 plants give no cash or other prize, though you need all of them before the Golden Peyote appear.

The numbers on this page are our own. Other maps and lists order the plants differently, so a plant's number here may not match theirs. Collect the regular plants in any order.

Story Mode peyote is a separate thing from GTA Online peyote. Online's plants arrived on October 31, 2019, and there are 76 of them. They return for seasonal events, respawn and pay RP, and finding them all earns no reward. Online peyote does not count toward the Golden Peyote chain, Cryptozoologist or Director Mode animals.

Golden Peyote and the Beast

Every Golden Peyote turns you into the Sasquatch, who can drive and pick up dropped weapons. After the Saturday plant, follow a howl and a trail of bodies to the Beast. Beat it in the fight and both the Sasquatch and the Beast unlock in Director Mode. Players found a single Tuesday plant in 2015, and the full chain was only solved in June 2016.

Peyote Plants FAQ

What happens when you eat a peyote plant?

Your character passes out and wakes up as a random animal: a land animal from a land plant, a bird from an air plant or sea life from a sea plant. The trip lasts until the animal dies or goes into the water, or you hold right on the d-pad.

Which peyote plants count for the Cryptozoologist achievement?

The 21 land and air plants. The 6 sea plants do not count toward Cryptozoologist.

How do you unlock the Golden Peyote?

Reach 100% completion, finish The Last One and eat all 27 regular plants. The seven Golden Peyote then appear one per day, Sunday to Saturday, between 5:30 and 8:00 AM in-game time in fog or snow.

How do you fight the Beast in GTA 5?

Eat the seven Golden Peyote in order from Sunday to Saturday. After the Saturday plant, as the Sasquatch, follow a howl and a trail of bodies to the Beast. Win the fight to unlock the Sasquatch and the Beast in Director Mode.

Is Story Mode peyote the same as GTA Online peyote?

No. Story Mode has 27 plants plus the Golden Peyote chain. GTA Online has a separate set of 76 that returns for seasonal events, respawns and pays RP, with no reward for finding them all.
