Can you own a business in GTA 6?
Not on current evidence. Rockstar's own material doesn't settle whether you can buy businesses in GTA 6: across the official GTA 6 site, every GTA 6 Newswire post, the pre-order press release, the editions, both trailers and An Extended Look, nothing describes buying, owning, running or earning from a business.
The only "business" wording Rockstar uses belongs to the Ultimate Edition, where five shops are "Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition." That line is about access: you get to shop at those places, not own them. More on that below.
It's also worth being clear about scope. Rockstar describes Grand Theft Auto VI as a single player experience, and no online mode has been announced, so everything in this guide is about the story game.
Garages yes, safehouses no
Rockstar's pre-order announcement explains that every personal garage in Leonida comes with a weapon locker for your loadout and a secure spot to stash stolen goods for the local Fence, who takes most of it at a discount.
Two specific garages are already named:
Shore Court comes with the Vintage Vice City Pack, included with all pre-orders and digital purchases made before November 20 (physical pre-orders while stocks last). Rockstar's site describes it as "the Shore Court personal garage that's just a stone's throw from the glistening sands of Ocean Beach. It features a weapon locker plus a secure place to deposit stolen goods to be fenced."
Paradise Garage in Watson Bay is an Ultimate Edition benefit, with the same weapon locker and stolen-goods storage.
Our GTA 6 pre-order guide breaks down which edition gets you what.
Beyond those, Rockstar told press at its August 2026 previews that garages can be bought across Leonida, expanding your vehicle storage past a starting limit of three cars. How many garages there are and what they cost is TBC.
Safehouses work differently. Per the same previews, you won't be able to buy them with money; they'll unlock as the story progresses, an approach Rockstar compared to the camps in Red Dead Redemption 2. Even Jason's starting home isn't his. On the official site, "Brian's letting Jason live rent-free at one of his properties, so long as he helps with local shakedowns."
The Ultimate Edition shops (open for business, not for sale)
These five storefronts are the closest thing to confirmed GTA 6 businesses, and each is an access perk rather than something you buy or run:
Rideout Customs, a vehicle mod shop in Vice City
One-Eyed Willie's, a mod shop in Lake Leonida
Sara's Unisex Salon, a hair salon
Stock 305, a streetwear clothing store in Stockyard
Electric Fang Tattoo, a tattoo parlor in Stockyard with more than 50 FAILE designs
Rockstar says Ultimate Edition bonuses are threaded through Jason and Lucia's story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter. Our GTA 6 map guide shows where Stockyard and the other regions sit.
One more Ultimate Edition location sounds like a shop but isn't: the PTT Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store in Southside Vice City is a gang compound you'll raid, escaping with special items and contraband. It's a score, not a storefront you own.
Businesses other characters run
Leonida is full of businesses; they just belong to other people. Rockstar's character bios name several:
Boobie Ike has built "a legitimate empire spanning real estate, a strip club, and a recording studio." His strip club is the Jack of Hearts, and his label with Dre'Quan is Only Raw Records. As Boobie puts it: "The club money pay for the studio, and the drug money pay for it all."
Dre'Quan books acts into Boobie's strip club. Rockstar told press at its August 2026 previews that you won't be able to steal cars parked right outside Dre'Quan's nightclub, because Jason is visiting a friend's business.
Brian Heder is still moving product through his boat yard, and Trailer 2 shows the sign for Brian's Boat Works & Marina.
In Ambrosia, the Allied Crystal sugar refinery "provides the jobs."

GTA 6 stores and brands spotted so far
Rockstar's trailer frames, screenshots and official text confirm more than 20 named storefronts, venues and brands so far. The highlights:
Starlet Motel in Port Gellhorn, its signs promising a vacancy, a pool and Wi-Fi
Delights Cabaret, a Port Gellhorn strip club
Pawn & Gun and Uncle Jack's, both seen around Jason and Lucia's store hold-up in Trailer 1, with Pißwasser and Logger Light Dreich on the shelves inside
Ammu-Nation, advertised on a TV in Trailer 2
Effluvia, a rooftop bar from An Extended Look
Ocean View Hotel
A Pegassi Residences South Tower sign, and the MEGAMUNDO sign on a Vice City high-rise
The Tisha-Wocka flea market, selling bootleg brands, and the Little Cuba panaderías
A beach gym with GAINZ plates
Weazel News on TV
None of these are confirmed as buyable. An Extended Look shows a store hold-up, and separately a store interior with a money counter on the HUD; our Extended Look breakdown covers that scene. Rockstar's own description of Port Gellhorn sums up the local economy: "there's a new economy in this once-popular vacation spot. It's fueled by malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks."
How you'll make money without a business
Rockstar's official material points to two sources of money:
Fences. Stolen goods go to the local Fence, who buys most of them at a discount, and your garage gives you a secure place to drop them.
Scores. Raul is "a seasoned bank robber always on the hunt for talent ready to take the risks that bring the biggest rewards," and the whole story kicks off when an easy score goes wrong.
Rockstar told press at its August 2026 previews a lot more about how the economy works:
Convenience stores, phone-repair shops and gas stations will be the small robbery targets; jewelry stores, small banks and gang compounds will sit higher up.
Different fences will handle drugs, jewelry, marked cash and vehicles, and some will sell codes and leads. Damaged cars will fetch less.
Money comes in three forms: bank balance, carried cash and loot. You'll lose carried cash if you get Wasted or Busted, and you'll deposit it into a shared bank account at ATMs. The banking app is called BuckMe.
Some story missions will need a set amount of money before you can play them.
Spending options shown include gym memberships, convenience stores, clothing stores, salons, garages and vehicle registration fees.
How businesses worked in GTA 5 and GTA Online
If GTA 6 does add business ownership, the series already has two very different templates.
GTA 5 story mode. Properties open up for purchase after Trevor's "Nervous Ron" mission, with some needing later missions. Most pay a weekly income every seven in-game days. After you buy, the manager will call or text about problems such as robbers or product pickups, and ignoring them can cost you that week's profit. A few properties pay per activity instead of weekly. Downtown Cab Co. costs $200,000 and pays $2,000 a week, while Tequi-la-la costs $2,000,000 and pays $16,500 a week. The priciest buys are funded by Lester's assassination missions for Franklin: each hit crashes one company's stock and lifts a rival's, so you buy before the job and sell after.
GTA Online. Businesses are the core of the money game. Our database tracks 21 business types across 108 purchasable business locations. Production businesses like the Bunker follow a simple loop: buy or steal supplies, let stock build up over time, then run a sell mission to cash it in. Others work differently: the Nightclub fills a safe based on popularity and its technicians fill a goods warehouse you sell from, and the Agency earns from repeatable contracts. Some need a prerequisite first, like a Clubhouse before any of the five MC businesses. Compare buy-in, income and requirements for every one on our GTA Online businesses hub.
Community speculation (unconfirmed)
Nothing in this section is confirmed by Rockstar; it's what others have reported, so treat it accordingly.
GTABase reports that Rockstar has not given a definitive answer on whether businesses can be bought, and that Rockstar said the pair's fugitive status makes traditional property ownership hard to fit into the story.
