What An Extended Look is and when it aired

An Extended Look is the third full-length official Grand Theft Auto VI video, after Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 (Rockstar's 26-second announcement teaser aside), and the first one to premiere on Netflix, in what Netflix called a first-of-its-kind premiere. Rockstar and Netflix announced it on August 6, 2026 with a Netflix-first window: subscribers got it on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 3 p.m. ET (12 p.m. PT, 8 p.m. BST), and six hours later, at 9 p.m. ET, Rockstar posted it free on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the official GTA VI site. Rockstar's own post at the free release simply read "Now available on YouTube and the Grand Theft Auto VI official site."

Rockstar's description of the video is short and worth quoting in full, because it is the only official framing that exists: "Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, this extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI showcases the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet." Once it went live, the Newswire headline simply added "Now Playing" to the title. No runtime, no chapter list, no platform breakdown beyond the PS5 capture note.

On Netflix it did what you would expect. Netflix's Top 10 report for the week of August 24, 2026 credited it with 31.1 million views in its first four days on the service (August 27 to 30) and a No. 1 spot in 87 of the 93 countries Netflix tracks. Those are Netflix's "views" (its hours-based metric), not a count of individual people.

Is An Extended Look GTA 6 Trailer 3?

Not under Rockstar's naming. Every place Rockstar labels the video, it is "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look": the Newswire title, the GTA VI site, the YouTube title, the X posts. Rockstar's own media page lists three videos, and only two of them carry numbers: "An Extended Look", "Trailer 2", "Trailer 1". The one place "Trailer 3" shows up on an official surface is the YouTube upload's search tags, which include "Trailer 3" and "GTA 6 Trailer 3" verbatim. That reads as Rockstar tagging what people search for, not naming the video.

So if you searched "GTA 6 trailer 3", this is the video you meant, and you can treat the two names as pointing at the same thing. Just do not expect Rockstar to ever call it that. The same goes for "gameplay reveal": that is how outlets framed it, and it is a fair description of what is on screen (a mix of cutscenes and playable moments with a live HUD), but Rockstar's words are "extended look" and "in-game footage".

Where to watch An Extended Look now

Three official places, all still up as of September 21, 2026:

• The Rockstar Games YouTube channel, free. The upload is age-restricted, so YouTube asks you to sign in before it plays, and it also means the video cannot be embedded on other sites, including this one.

• The official GTA VI site at rockstargames.com/VI, free, alongside Trailer 1 and Trailer 2.

• Netflix, for subscribers, listed as TV-MA.

The Netflix version and the free version are the same video; the only difference was the six-hour head start on August 27.

What the video showed, scene by scene

There is no narrator. The video cuts between cutscenes, gameplay and montage, loosely following a chain of jobs that Jason and Lucia take on, and the timestamps below (given as "around" because they come from keyframe sampling of Rockstar's master file) let you jump to any beat. The opening job (around 00:00 to 05:33). The video opens on an ESRB "Likely Mature 17+" slate at 00:00, then Jason and Lucia walking up to a run-down building at night from around 00:08. The dialogue frames this as a pickup for Boobie Ike. Inside, from around 00:50, they move through corridors and a hallway full of people while context prompts appear on screen (a "KNOCK" prompt around 02:13), and Jason stops at a door with a peephole around 02:21. Around 03:14 the job reaches a makeshift drug lab staffed by masked cooks in gloves, and a phone call screen appears. The HUD switches on around 04:10: health and a second bar top-left, weapon and ammo top-right. A weapon pickup label reading "MORELAND 850 SHOTGUN" appears around 04:27, and from around 04:43 to 05:33 the pickup turns into a firefight back through the building's corridors with wanted stars lit on the HUD.

Title cards (around 06:00 to 06:13). Only after six minutes does "Rockstar Games Presents" appear (around 06:00), followed by a shot of Jason at a red convertible with a "SLIM JIM" prompt around 06:04 and the GTA VI logo around 06:13. Around 06:21 Lucia drops from a building down to street level.

Downtime (around 06:43 to 09:26). Jason and Lucia's apartment gets a proper tour from around 06:43 to 07:25: the fridge (with an interaction prompt), the bedroom. An in-game TV ad featuring boars and deer plays around 07:33. From around 08:07 to 08:48 the pair drive the red convertible through the city, and the minimap in the bottom-left corner renders buildings in 3D. Around 08:56 the drive crosses a bridge where a pedestrian has been left dangling off the side. Lucia carries a long gun one-handed with a bag in the other hand around 09:09, and a backyard wrestling ring shows up around 09:26.

The rooftop bar (around 09:51 to 11:11). At a rooftop bar whose sign reads "Effluvia", Jason and Lucia sit down with Brian Heder and his wife Lori. Coverage of the video describes this as Brian offering them work. An interrogation scene in a dark room lined with monitors is intercut around 10:24 to 10:33.

The hold-up and the getaway job (around 11:28 to 16:53). From around 11:28 to 12:10 Lucia robs a store in a bandana mask and the pair escape in an old car. Then comes the longest gameplay stretch: a highway drive as getaway drivers with Raul Bautista in the back seat, from around 12:32 to 13:51. Around 14:07 to 14:32 Jason leans out and fires a rifle at a police pickup truck; this is where the wanted HUD is clearest, with six star slots (four lit), a row of four pursuit icons beneath the stars and live ammo counters. The getaway car is set on fire around 15:16 (Game Informer reports it as a Molotov chosen from the weapon wheel), followed by an escape on foot and by van from around 15:33 to 16:26, with a masked Lucia walking away from the burning car. Around 16:34 to 16:53 an aerial shot sweeps over a coastal property, then Raul rides in the back of a van with Jason and Lucia.

Montage (around 17:18 to 20:30). This is the section most of the activity footage comes from: Lucia on a bench press with plates stamped "GAINZ" around 17:18; a binoculars view, kayaking and a stock-car race with a "LAP 1/2" HUD around 17:27 to 17:45; a store interior with a money counter on the HUD, a motorbike ride as pillion and Lucia at a car trunk around 17:50 to 18:11; a beach with umbrellas and a banner plane around 18:20; Lucia at an outdoor shooting range around 18:31 ("TARGETS REMAINING 8/12" with a timer); a night drive in the red convertible with two of six wanted stars lit around 18:39; Lucia on a high rooftop and then a parachute jump over the city around 18:47 to 18:56; Jason on a green couch with a friend in a teal "Manatees 15" jersey, canned beer in hand, around 19:04; an airport lounge and a private jet on a night runway around 19:16 to 19:44; a skyscraper lit in purple around 20:13 (outlets identify it as the Megamundo building); a night street race HUD reading "PROGRESS 5/8" around 20:22; strip club and nightclub interiors around 20:30 to 21:00.

The party and the siege (around 21:08 to 25:34). Jason and Lucia arrive at a balloon-filled high-society party holding hands around 21:08 to 21:40. Outlets describe the job as private security for a wealthy host (Game Informer names him as Andrés; Rockstar has not). From around 21:49 the action moves through office floors at night, and around 23:52 a text message from "Lucia", with an emoji avatar, appears on screen reading "GUYS EVERYWHERE". From around 24:00 to 25:34 gunmen in white suits storm the place: Lucia fights an attacker on the floor, an office shootout follows, and around 25:25 there is a slow-motion shot with a highlighted body-part reticle.

Closing montage and end card (around 25:48 to 26:41). A final run of shots from around 25:48 to 26:16: a resort pool from the air, a fishing boat with three people aboard including Brian Heder, a bar, a nightclub selfie, a night car meet, a seaplane, a sunset skyline. Then the GTA VI logo, "CAPTURED ON PS5" around 26:28, "NOVEMBER 19, 2026 / PRE-ORDER NOW" around 26:32, and the Rockstar Games logo around 26:41.

Among the released music heard in the video is Cliff Richard's "Devil Woman".

Gameplay systems on screen

Everything below was either visible in a frame or reported by at least two outlets; the timestamps are only given where we saw the element ourselves.

• HUD layout. Health and a second bar top-left, weapon and ammo top-right (first visible around 04:10). Ammo counters run live during the chase around 14:07 to 14:32.

• Six-slot wanted level. The wanted HUD shows six star slots, not five. Four are lit during the highway chase around 14:07 to 14:32 and two during the night drive around 18:39, with a row of four pursuit icons under the stars during the chase. Rockstar has said nothing about what the sixth star means; the guesses are in the speculation section.

• 3D minimap. From around 08:07 the bottom-left minimap renders buildings in 3D rather than as a flat overlay.

• Slim Jim carjacking. A "SLIM JIM" prompt on the red convertible around 06:04, which outlets describe as a carjacking minigame.

• Context-sensitive prompts. "KNOCK" on a door around 02:13, a prompt at the apartment fridge around 06:43 to 07:25, plus the pickup label on the Moreland 850 shotgun around 04:27.

• Weapon wheel that also holds masks. Reported by Kotaku, PC Gamer and Engadget; Game Informer adds that the Molotov used on the getaway car around 15:16 came from it.

• Body-part targeting with slow motion. The highlighted reticle around 25:25. Kotaku, PC Gamer and Engadget describe it as a targeting feature; Game Informer cautions it could be a cinematic flourish rather than a player mechanic, so treat it as unconfirmed until launch.

• Character switching. Multiple outlets (Engadget, Push Square, PC Gamer) describe a switch between Jason and Lucia in the montage. We did not catch the switch itself in a sampled frame, so no timestamp.

• Phone and text UI. A phone call screen during the drug lab sequence around 03:14 to 04:35, and a text thread with emoji avatars around 23:52.

• Livestream or social feed overlay. Engadget and Game Informer both describe a feed overlay running during a chase.

• Racing HUDs. "LAP 1/2" with a timer in the stock-car race around 17:27 to 17:45, "PROGRESS 5/8" in the night street race around 20:22.

• Shooting range scoring. "TARGETS REMAINING 8/12" with a timer around 18:31.

• Money counter. Visible in a store interior around 17:50 to 18:11.

Side activities and open-world moments

The montage sections are where the video makes its "biggest, most immersive" case. Corroborated by at least two outlets, with timestamps where the shotlist has them:

• Weightlifting (Lucia on the bench press, around 17:18)

• Kayaking (around 17:27 to 17:45)

• Stock-car racing (around 17:27 to 17:45) and a night street race (around 20:22); dirt-bike racing is reported by outlets but we did not catch it in a sampled frame

• Shooting range (around 18:31)

• Parachuting (around 18:47 to 18:56)

• Backyard wrestling (the ring around 09:26)

• Fishing (the boat in the closing montage around 25:48 to 26:16)

• Scuba, jet-ski, airboat and basketball (reported by Game Informer, Engadget, Push Square, Red Bull and Gizmodo; no timestamps from our pass)

• Petting a dog (Push Square, TheGamer)

• Nightlife: strip club and nightclub interiors (around 20:30 to 21:00), a nightclub selfie and a night car meet in the closing montage

Two smaller open-world beats also got attention: the pedestrian left dangling from a bridge around 08:56, and the in-game TV ad with boars and deer around 07:33. What either implies is speculation, and it is filed there.

Who appears in An Extended Look

Every character we could place in the footage is a name Rockstar had already published: five of them carry profiles on Rockstar's site from May 2025, when Trailer 2 launched, and Lori is named inside Brian Heder's profile as his third wife. Nobody here is new to the cast; what is new is seeing them move, talk and work in play:

• Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the leads, on screen throughout, from the opening walk-up around 00:08 to the party arrival around 21:08 and the siege after it.

• Boobie Ike, the client for the opening drug pickup, established through dialogue rather than shown on screen in the frames we sampled.

• Brian Heder and his wife Lori, at the "Effluvia" rooftop bar around 09:51 to 11:11; Brian also appears on the fishing boat in the closing montage.

• Raul Bautista, in the back seat for the getaway job around 12:32 to 13:51 and in the van around 16:34 to 16:53.

The party host, named as Andrés by Game Informer, has no Rockstar profile. On the cast, one performer has broken cover: Stephen Root confirmed in an Associated Press interview reported on September 14, 2026 that he is in GTA 6, and outlets identify his role as Brian Heder from his voice. Rockstar itself has still announced no performers for any role. The end card: release date, platforms and pre-orders

The video closes on a run of cards: the GTA VI logo, then "CAPTURED ON PS5" around 26:28, which confirms the platform the footage was recorded on; Rockstar's copy says "on PlayStation 5" and stops there, so any "base PS5" wording you see elsewhere is an outlet's addition. Then "NOVEMBER 19, 2026 / PRE-ORDER NOW" around 26:32, and the Rockstar Games logo around 26:41.

Two things the end card does not do: it lists no platforms and shows no Xbox mark. The platform list comes from Rockstar's site and its teaser description, which reads verbatim: "Grand Theft Auto VI is coming November 19 to PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S." So the video restated the date; the platforms are confirmed by Rockstar's written copy, not by the footage.

What An Extended Look did not show

Worth stating plainly, because a lot of "everything revealed" coverage blurs this video together with other Rockstar previews:

• No map reveal. Leonida's regions appear as backdrops (the coastal property, the beach, the purple-lit skyscraper), but there is no map screen and no map graphic.

• No GTA Online. Nothing in the video mentions or shows the online mode.

• No runtime. Rockstar prints runtimes for Trailer 2 (2:47) and Trailer 1 (1:31) on its site and none for An Extended Look. We will not publish one until Rockstar does.

• No PC, no edition news, no new date. The end card restated November 19, 2026 and nothing else; platforms remained PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

• No cast announcement. Rockstar's site still credits no actors; the one confirmed performer, Stephen Root, confirmed his involvement himself in September.

What has changed since August 27

As of September 21, 2026: no delay, no PC announcement and no change to editions. On the cast, Stephen Root confirmed in an Associated Press interview reported on September 14, 2026 that he is in the game, with outlets identifying his role as Brian Heder; Rockstar has not announced a cast. The one substantive Rockstar announcement since the video is "Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album", 34 original tracks released through Atlantic Records, out on November 19 alongside the game, announced on the Newswire on September 17, 2026. Community speculation (unconfirmed)

Nothing in this section is confirmed by Rockstar; every item is a reading of the footage by a named outlet, and it may be wrong.

• What six stars mean. Engadget's Dave Meikleham (August 28, 2026) inferred from the six-slot HUD that the top tier brings a heavier police response than GTA V's five-star maximum. Rockstar has not described the wanted system.

• Random encounters. Engadget (August 28, 2026) read the pedestrian dangling from the bridge around 08:56 as a sign that stranger-style random events return, and hedged the claim explicitly.

• Hunting. Engadget (August 28, 2026) took the in-game TV ad with boars and deer around 07:33 as a hint that hunting is back.

• A player-directed romance. Push Square's Liam Croft and Stephen Tailby (August 28, 2026) described whether Jason and Lucia's relationship deepens as "seemingly up to you". Rockstar has said nothing about it.

What did the GTA 6 Extended Look show?

Roughly a chain of jobs, cut between cutscenes, gameplay and montage: a drug pickup for Boobie Ike that turns into a firefight, downtime at Jason and Lucia's apartment, a meeting with Brian Heder and Lori at a rooftop bar, a store hold-up, a highway getaway with Raul Bautista, a montage of activities (weightlifting, kayaking, racing, a shooting range, parachuting, nightlife), and a high-society party that becomes a siege. Is the GTA 6 Extended Look Trailer 3?

Not by Rockstar's naming. Rockstar titles it "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" everywhere, and its media page numbers only Trailer 1 and Trailer 2. The YouTube upload's search tags do include "Trailer 3", which is as close as Rockstar has come. It is, however, the video everyone meant by "Trailer 3", so if that is what you searched for, this is it.

How long is the GTA 6 Extended Look?

Rockstar has not published an official runtime. Its site lists 2:47 for Trailer 2 and 1:31 for Trailer 1 and no figure for An Extended Look. It is much longer than either numbered trailer; we will add the exact figure if Rockstar publishes one.

Where can I watch the GTA 6 Extended Look?

Free on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel (age-restricted, so you need to be signed in) and on the official GTA VI site at rockstargames.com/VI. Netflix subscribers can also watch it there, where it is listed as TV-MA. It cannot be embedded on other sites because of the age restriction, which is why there is no player on this page.

Who is in the GTA 6 Extended Look?

Jason Duval, Lucia Caminos, Brian Heder, Lori and Raul Bautista appear, and Boobie Ike is named as the client for the opening job. All are names Rockstar had already published (Lori inside Brian's profile), and no new character profiles came with the video. Rockstar has announced no voice cast, though Stephen Root confirmed on September 14, 2026 that he is in the game, in what outlets identify as the Brian Heder role. Did the Extended Look show gameplay?

Yes, in the sense that a live HUD, wanted stars, weapon pickups, racing timers and a minimap are all on screen, mixed with cutscenes. Rockstar's own wording is "captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5"; the "gameplay reveal" label comes from outlets, not Rockstar.

Did the Extended Look change the release date?

No. The end card reads "NOVEMBER 19, 2026 / PRE-ORDER NOW" around 26:32, which is the date Rockstar already had on its site. Nothing has moved since; the delay history is in our GTA 6 release date guide.
