How to Register as a VIP in GTA Online: Requirements and Best VIP Work

How to register as a VIP
Registration takes about ten seconds:
Open the Interaction Menu (the same menu you use for passive mode and outfit swaps).
Scroll down to SecuroServ and select it.
Choose Register as a VIP.
Name your Organization when prompted, and you are in business.

Once registered, you can rename your Organization later for GTA$ 50,000, so pick a name you can live with.
Do you need GTA$ 1,000,000? The GTA$ 50,000 check explained
This is the number one point of confusion, so here it is straight: becoming a VIP requires GTA$ 50,000 in your bank account, and the game only checks that the money is there. Nothing is deducted. Registering as a VIP is completely free.
The GTA$ 1,000,000 figure people remember belongs to two different things. First, history: VIP registration really did require GTA$ 1,000,000 until Rockstar dropped it to GTA$ 50,000 in June 2017. Second, CEOs: becoming a CEO means buying an executive office, and it is the office that carries the big price tag, not VIP registration. If a friend told you VIP costs a million, they are about nine years out of date.
VIP vs CEO vs MC President
VIPs get the entry-level VIP Work; CEOs run those same jobs plus the office- and vehicle-warehouse-gated works. Here is how the two statuses differ:

In short, a CEO is a VIP with no time limit, no bank check, and a permanent Organization name, unlocked by buying an office. MC President is its own lane: it comes from the biker side of the game, and MC Presidents cannot launch VIP or CEO Work, so if VIP missions are the goal, you need to be a VIP or CEO.
Both VIPs and CEOs can hire up to three Associates to help with the work. Associate salaries were doubled in 2022, so bodyguard duty pays better than it used to.
How long VIP lasts and which sessions work
A VIP registration lasts 4 real hours. Time spent in jobs does not count against the clock, so you only burn VIP time in freemode. When the 4 hours run out, registering again starts a fresh VIP Organization rather than extending the old one.
Session type stopped mattering in July 2022: you can register as a VIP and run VIP Work in any session, including invite-only, crew, and friends sessions. If you found this page asking whether you can do this work in an invite-only lobby, the answer is yes, and it is the most comfortable way to grind without other players interfering.
What VIP Work is and where to find it
VIP Work is a set of freemode missions you launch from the Interaction Menu once registered: open it again, select SecuroServ, then VIP Work (CEOs see CEO Work, it is the same menu). There are 17 works in total, but most are gated: many require an office and a vehicle warehouse, and some need rival Organizations in the session, which is why only a handful matter when you are starting out.
One quick distinction: VIP Challenges (Point to Point and friends) live in the same menu but are separate competitions between you and your own Associates, not money missions.
Best VIP Work to start with
Four works have no ownership requirements and work solo from day one; the three below are the ones worth running:

Hostile Takeover is also available without an office if you want variety between runs.
Payouts scale with time on the clock, up to a cap at around the 15-minute mark. That gives you two valid strategies: rush every mission back to back for the best GTA$ per hour, or let the clock run toward the cap for the biggest single payout per run. For pure grinding, rushing wins.
Cooldowns are short: 5 minutes between different works, and 10 minutes before you can repeat the same one (a few, such as Piracy Prevention, run much longer).
