Follow @gtabossgg on X for weekly updates and guides.
Follow on XSecurity Contracts are repeatable Free Mode missions you launch from your Agency computer, paying roughly GTA$ 31,000–70,000 each depending on difficulty. They are also the engine behind your Agency's passive income: every five contracts you complete push the safe's daily payout higher, up to a cap. Here's how all six types work and which ones are worth your time.

What are Security Contracts?
Security Contracts arrived with The Contract update in December 2021. They are repeatable Free Mode missions run through F. Clinton and Partner, the security firm you co-own with Franklin. To take one on, you need to own an Agency, which costs GTA$ 2,010,000–2,830,000 depending on the location, and you need to be registered as a VIP, CEO, or MC President. There is no rank requirement.
One outdated idea worth killing: you do not need a public session. Security Contracts work in any session type, including invite-only and solo sessions, so you can grind them without ever seeing a griefer. They are fully solo-viable, and your organization or club can join in.
How to start a Security Contract
Sit down at the computer in your Agency office. You'll be offered 3 contracts at a time, each with a type and a difficulty tier. Don't like the selection? Log out of the computer and log back in: the offers re-roll every time you access the contracts screen, so you can fish for the type and tier you want in seconds.
After you complete a contract, there's a 5-minute cooldown before you can start the next one. After your first contract, you can also call Franklin directly to be handed a contract without sitting back down at the computer.
Contract tiers and payouts
Every contract rolls at one of three difficulty tiers. Payouts vary within each tier, but they land in roughly these ranges:
Tier | Approximate payout |
|---|---|
Professional | GTA$ 31,000–42,000 |
Specialist | GTA$ 44,000–56,000 |
Specialist+ | GTA$ 60,000–70,000 |
Higher tiers pay more; the objectives stay the same for each contract type.
Agency safe income: how the ladder works
This is a big part of why Security Contracts are worth grinding. Your Agency safe generates passive income every in-game day, and the rate is tied directly to your lifetime contract count: it rises by GTA$ 500 for every 5 contracts you complete, which works out to about GTA$ 100 per contract on average. The rate maxes out at GTA$ 20,000 per in-game day once you're past the 200-contract mark.
The safe holds up to GTA$ 250,000. Income stops accruing when it's full, so swing by your Agency office and empty it manually before it caps out. Maxed safe income is one of the better semi-passive earners in the game; see where it fits in our solo money making guide.
One important detail: the safe ladder only counts how many contracts you finish, not which type or tier. A quick Professional contract moves you up the ladder exactly as much as a long Specialist+ one.
The easiest and fastest Security Contracts
There's no official ranking, but since the safe ladder rewards count rather than difficulty, the easiest Security Contracts in GTA Online to grind are the shorter clear-and-return types: jobs like Gang Termination and Vehicle Recovery, where you eliminate targets or grab an objective and head home. Players commonly favor these for ladder progress.
Two things to factor in:
Asset Protection always runs a full 10 minutes, so it has a hard time floor no matter how good you are.
The re-roll trick matters. If the computer offers three slow contracts, log out and back in until a short one appears.
Factor in the 5-minute cooldown between contracts when you plan a grinding session.
All six Security Contract types
There are six Security Contract types, and for each one the objective is the same every time, but the location, layout, and enemies vary between scenarios:
Asset Protection
Asset Protection is a 10-minute defense mission: enemies attack in waves and try to destroy your client's assets, and your payout scales with how many survive. Every destroyed asset cuts your reward by 10%, so getting to the site quickly and holding it matters more here than in any other type.
The timer starts the moment you accept the contract, back in your office, so leave immediately; arrive too late and the contract can fail before you fire a shot.
Locations include:
Tongva Hills
Elysian Island
La Mesa
Watch for flame icons on your radar during the defense. Those are enemies carrying molotov cocktails, and a single one slipping through can torch an asset.
Gang Termination
Gang Termination sends you after 4 marked targets in a gang-held area. The marked targets carry a red arrow over their heads and show as red target icons on your radar, so they're easy to pick out of the crowd.
You don't need to wipe out everyone, only the 4 marked targets. Once they're down, leave the area and the contract completes. That makes this one of the quickest types when the location rolls in your favor.
Liquidize Assets
Liquidize Assets is a three-step job: tail a target to the asset location, destroy everything inside, then blow the building. Start by following the target to the destination (they lead you there, so don't spook them), then fight your way through the building, shooting the marked assets along with the guards, and keep explosives handy: some asset types, like ammo crates, only go down to explosive damage.
Once the assets and enemies are cleared, plant three satchel charges at the spots marked with white icons on your radar. Plant the one nearest the exit last, because the timer doesn't leave much room to run. Finally, lose your wanted level (3 or 4 stars depending on the job) and the contract completes.
Recover Valuables
Recover Valuables sends you to retrieve something stolen from your client. The routine barely changes between locations:
Clear the building and find the safe
Find the safe combination
Open the safe and take the item
Grabbing the item triggers reinforcements inside and outside the building, so be ready to fight your way back to your vehicle. Once you're driving, they're easy to shake. Deliver the item to the Agency to finish.
Where to find the combination for the safe
The safe combination is written on a yellow Post-it note near the safe, and the game marks it with a green arrow. If you've cleared the room and can't spot it, sweep the desks and surfaces close to the safe until the green arrow comes into view, then punch in the code and open it.
Rescue Operation
In Rescue Operation you head to a marked area and find your client, who is pinned down and marked by red smoke. Listen for gunfire and shouting to zero in faster, and hurry: the client has a health bar, and if they die the contract fails.
Clear the enemies around the client so they'll follow you, then get them to a vehicle. More enemies chase as you leave; you can outrun them, or hold position and wipe each wave until they stop coming, then drive out clean. Either way, deliver the client to the safehouse to complete the contract.
Vehicle Recovery
Vehicle Recovery has you clear a guarded building, recover the target vehicle, and drive it home. Locations include:
Davis
LSIA
Humane Labs
Fight through the building until the vehicle shows up as an icon on your radar. Grabbing it spawns more enemies, so it's often worth stepping back out to deal with them before you drive. Hit the switch near the garage door to open it (it's usually right next to the door), then head for the Agency.
One location-specific tip: in the Humane Labs version you're stuck with a very slow van. Don't try to outrun pursuers on the freeway; cut across country and take shortcuts instead.
Unlocks and rewards for completing Security Contracts
Security Contracts gate a surprising amount of Agency content:
Contracts completed | Unlock |
|---|---|
1 (some players report 2) | The Contract: Dr. Dre VIP story missions |
A few, typically 3 | Payphone Hits from Franklin |
5 (as leader) | Trade price: Granger 3600LX |
10 (as leader) | Trade price: Deity |
15 (as leader) | Trade price: Patriot Mil-Spec |
20 (as leader) | Trade price: Jubilee |
Your first completed Security Contract unlocks the Dr. Dre storyline, though some players report it takes two; our full walkthrough of The Contract with Dr. Dre covers every mission. The trade-price unlocks require completing the contracts as the leader, not as a helping player. At 50 contracts you also earn a trophy for your Agency desk.
Looking for more Agency jobs between contracts? Our Short Trips guide walks through those missions too.
Security Contracts FAQ
How many Security Contracts do I need for Dr. Dre?
Completing your first Security Contract unlocks The Contract VIP story missions with Dr. Dre, though some players report it takes two. Either way, you'll hit the threshold within your first session.
What is the easiest Security Contract?
There's no official ranking, but players commonly favor the shorter clear-and-return types, like Gang Termination and Vehicle Recovery. Since safe income depends on how many contracts you finish rather than which type, short contracts are the efficient pick. Asset Protection is the slowest by design: it always runs 10 minutes.
Where do I find the combination for the safe?
In Recover Valuables, the safe combination is on a yellow Post-it note near the safe, marked with a green arrow. Check the desks and surfaces around the safe.
How much do Security Contracts pay?
Roughly GTA$ 31,000–42,000 for Professional, GTA$ 44,000–56,000 for Specialist, and GTA$ 60,000–70,000 for Specialist+ contracts.
How much passive income does each contract add?
The Agency safe's daily payout rises by GTA$ 500 for every 5 contracts you complete, about GTA$ 100 per contract on average, capping at GTA$ 20,000 per in-game day once you're past the 200-contract mark.
How much does the Agency safe hold, and how do I collect it?
The safe holds GTA$ 250,000 and stops accruing when full. Collect the cash manually from the safe in your Agency office.
Is there a cooldown between Security Contracts?
Yes, 5 minutes between contracts.
Which Security Contract is best for money?
Specialist+ contracts pay the most per completion, roughly GTA$ 60,000–70,000. But if you're building safe income, the count is all that matters, so quick contracts at any tier climb the ladder just as fast.
