Everything you need to know about the Cocaine Lockup in GTA V Online
The Cocaine Lockup is the best of the five Motorcycle Club (MC) production businesses in GTA Online, plain and simple. Buy it, keep it supplied, and it quietly cooks product in the background while you play the game. That passive production is the appeal, but do not mistake it for free money: selling is very much active, and in a public lobby it can get ugly fast. The good news is that with a little planning you can sell your Cocaine Lockup stock solo and never lose a batch to a griefer or a timer.
If you only ever buy one MC business, make it this one. It has the highest hourly profit of the five, and this guide covers everything: the cheapest location, which upgrades actually matter, exact payouts, and the stock threshold that keeps solo sales down to a single delivery vehicle. You can also browse all four locations on our Cocaine Lockups hub.

What you need before buying a Cocaine Lockup
One prerequisite: you need a Motorcycle Clubhouse and you must be registered as an MC President to buy or run any MC business. No Clubhouse, no lockup.
The Cocaine Lockup arrived with the Bikers update in 2016 as one of five MC production businesses: cocaine, meth, counterfeit cash, weed, and document forgery. You can own one of each, and if you expand later the Methamphetamine Lab and Counterfeit Cash Factory are the natural next picks. Cocaine comes first, though: it earns the most.
The best Cocaine Lockup location
Every Cocaine Lockup is identical inside. Same production speed, same payouts, same missions. You are only paying for the postcode, so price and convenience are all that matter. Check each spot on the interactive map before you commit.
Location | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Alamo Sea | GTA$ 975,000 | Cheapest, central desert, near the other MC businesses |
Paleto Bay | GTA$ 1,098,000 | Second cheapest, far north |
Elysian Island | GTA$ 1,462,500 | Los Santos, by the port |
Morningwood | GTA$ 1,852,500 | Most expensive, west city |
Buy Alamo Sea. It is the cheapest by a wide margin, it sits near the cheapest Clubhouse, and the other desert MC businesses cluster around it, so you can chain resupply and sell missions without crossing the whole map.
Setting up your Cocaine Lockup
After buying, head inside and use the laptop to start the one-time setup mission: steal a Tampa loaded with supplies and drive it back to the lockup. Do this in a private or invite-only session so nobody blows up the vehicle for laughs. Once it is delivered, the lockup can produce.
Production needs supplies, and you have two options:
Buy them: GTA$ 15,000 per unit, and 5 units fill one full supply bar for GTA$ 75,000. Producing a full batch of product burns through about GTA$ 187,500 in bought supplies.
Steal them: free, via steal missions from the laptop. The more MC members you have along, the more units each mission brings back.
Stealing is not the trivial saving some older guides made it out to be. Skipping GTA$ 187,500 in supply costs per batch is real money, it just costs you time instead.
Cocaine Lockup upgrades
Upgrade | Cost | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Equipment Upgrade | GTA$ 935,000 | Speeds up production, raises product value, and makes supplies last longer |
Staff Upgrade | GTA$ 390,000 | Speeds up production further and raises product value |
Security Upgrade | GTA$ 570,000 | Lowers the chance of raids and theft (no effect on income) |
Grab Equipment and Staff as soon as you can afford them. Together they roughly halve the time to fill a batch and push the full-batch value up significantly, so they pay for themselves quickly. Security is optional: it does nothing for your income, so skip it unless raids genuinely annoy you.
Cocaine Lockup payouts and max profit
The lockup holds 10 stacks of product. When you sell, the game asks whether you want to deliver to Los Santos or Blaine County, and picking the region your lockup is NOT in adds +50% to the sale value. Always take the furthest buyer.
Setup | Full batch (local sale) | Full batch (furthest buyer) | Time to fill |
|---|---|---|---|
No upgrades | GTA$ 270,000 | GTA$ 405,000 | about 8 hours 20 minutes |
Equipment + Staff | GTA$ 350,000 | GTA$ 525,000 | about 5 hours |
Now the honest math: if you bought your supplies, subtract about GTA$ 187,500 from that headline number. A full fully-upgraded sale to the furthest buyer nets about GTA$ 337,500, or the full GTA$ 525,000 if you stole the supplies instead.
Selling in a busy public session can also trigger a High Demand bonus of up to +50% on top, but it flags your delivery to every rival player in the lobby. Most solo players (rightly) decide it is not worth the risk.
Can you sell a Cocaine Lockup solo?
Yes, if you manage your stock. This is the part of the guide that saves you money, so read it before your first sale.
You get 30 minutes to complete a sell mission, extended to 45 minutes when you are the only person in your MC. The real constraint is vehicles: on most mission variants, the number of delivery vehicles follows how much stock you sell. From in-game testing:
3 stacks or fewer: one vehicle (the safe solo sale)
4 stacks: one or two vehicles
5 stacks: two vehicles
6 to 10 stacks: three or more vehicles
When you start a sale, the game picks one of six mission variants at random. Knowing them tells you what you are in for:
Bikes: 1 to 4 Baggers with one drop-off per bike, and the bike count follows how much stock you sell.
Bike Setup: exclusive to the Cocaine Lockup. You ride to a single drop-off that turns out to be a police sting, pick up a 3-star wanted level, lose the cops, then deliver to a backup drop-off.
Boats: 1 to 3 Dinghies, 5 packages each, 5 drop-offs per boat. Each boat carries a quick-delivery cash bonus that decays if you are slow.
Sea Planes: 1 to 3 Dodos, 5 packages each, dropped from altitude to boats.
Single Vehicle: one truck no matter how much stock you sell (a Rat-Truck, Gang Burrito, or Pounder depending on quantity), ambushed along the way by 3 waves of 2 Sanchez bikes (two riders each). The dream roll for a solo full batch.
Trash Trucks: 1 to 3 Trashmasters, 5 packages each, 5 drop-offs each. The classic slow roll.
That variant list is why a full 10-stack batch is a gamble solo. Roll Single Vehicle and you deliver everything in one truck, easily. Roll a multi-vehicle, multi-drop variant like Trash Trucks, Boats, or Sea Planes and you are juggling three or more vehicles, which is slow and tedious, and some vehicle and drop-off combinations will run out the clock, which means any undelivered product is simply lost. The clean solo play is to sell at 3 stacks or fewer (about a quarter of capacity) so you always get a single vehicle whatever variant you roll.
Be honest with yourself about what that pattern costs you, though. A 3-stack sale to the furthest buyer with full upgrades grosses about GTA$ 157,500, roughly GTA$ 101,250 net with bought supplies, and upgraded production refills those 3 stacks about every 1.5 hours. Selling small means selling often, so this is the more active way to run the business, not the passive one.
One more thing: about a minute after you get into a sale vehicle, the game alerts every rival player in the session to your sale. A private, invite-only, or otherwise quiet lobby is the safest place to deliver.
You do not have to babysit the lockup in person either. A Nightclub technician can accrue cocaine passively on your behalf, and the Arcade's Master Control Terminal lets you resupply and manage the business remotely.
Is the Cocaine Lockup worth it?
Yes, but for two specific reasons, and neither of them is grinding sell missions every night.
First, the honest part. The lockup has the highest hourly profit and the best margin of the five MC businesses, which makes it the obvious pick if you only own one. But on a normal week, its sell missions are usually not the best use of your active solo time. The recommended small-batch pattern has you delivering every 1.5 hours or so of production, and that same time earns more in the Cayo Perico heist, the Dr Dre contract, or whichever business is carrying the weekly 2X sell bonus. If you just want a friendlier solo sell business, the Acid Lab always gives you a single delivery vehicle with no stock cutoff to manage.
So why own the lockup at all? Reason one is the Nightclub. Owning a Cocaine Lockup unlocks South American Imports, the single most valuable Nightclub technician assignment at GTA$ 13,500 per hour upgraded. That income accrues passively on your behalf with zero sell missions from the lockup itself. If hands-off cash is the goal, pair this with our passive income guide.
Reason two is bonus weeks. When cocaine gets a 2X sell bonus, that GTA$ 525,000 full upgraded batch becomes GTA$ 1,050,000 or more, and suddenly the sell missions absolutely earn their time.
The recommended setup (Alamo Sea plus the Equipment and Staff upgrades) runs about GTA$ 2,300,000, and this is how you should think about recouping it: the Nightclub feed pays it down quietly in the background, and a bonus-week sale or two closes the gap fast. Buy it for those two reasons and it is comfortably worth it.
Cocaine Lockup FAQ
Can I run and sell the Cocaine Lockup solo?
Production is passive, so running it solo is easy. Selling a full batch solo is possible but slow, and on some vehicle and drop-off rolls the timer expires before you finish, costing you the undelivered product. The clean solo sale is 3 stacks or fewer, which always gives you a single delivery vehicle.
How much does a full Cocaine Lockup sell for?
Up to GTA$ 525,000 fully upgraded when sold to the furthest buyer, or GTA$ 350,000 to a local buyer. With no upgrades, a full batch tops out at GTA$ 405,000.
Is the Cocaine Lockup the best MC business?
Of the five MC businesses, yes: it has the highest hourly income. On a normal week, though, its sell missions still lose to the Cayo Perico heist, the Dr Dre contract, or the Acid Lab as a use of active solo time.
Is the Cocaine Lockup worth it if I don't do sell missions?
Yes. Owning it unlocks South American Imports, the most valuable Nightclub technician assignment at GTA$ 13,500 per hour upgraded. That money accrues passively through the Nightclub with no lockup sell missions at all.
Do I need the Security upgrade?
No. It is optional and does not raise your income at all. Skip it unless raids bother you.
Why is my Cocaine Lockup not producing?
Check the basics: the setup mission is done, you have supplies in stock, you are registered as MC President, and (if you run it through a Nightclub) a technician is assigned to cocaine. When all conditions are met, product ticks up every 30 to 50 minutes.
Where is the cheapest Cocaine Lockup?
Alamo Sea, at GTA$ 975,000.
